The museum has developed exhibits about black inventors, jazz musicians, and community and political leaders from the area.

Beyond George Washington Carver, though, many people aren't familiar with black inventors.

"I wanted to keep it from getting stolen, as has happened to so many black inventors in the past."

Included in the schedule of activities are an exhibition of black inventors and discussions by black female authors.

On Thursdays in February, the theater will also present children's story hours titled "Enlightenment" about black inventors.

The little girls were also discussing black inventors.

But Carver, credited for his work with crop rotation and the peanut, is just one of many black inventors.

Carver is named after George Washington Carver, a famous black inventor.

So began his quest to document the experience of black inventors and correct what he said is often an inaccurate record.

"When we look at black inventors, most did not have the same opportunity white ones did," he said.
