But through the changes, Ms. Miescher has worked with the program's clients most Saturdays and Sundays to maintain the garden, install an irrigation system and build new beds, benches and trellises.

The smaller stuff, like green branches pruned from a cherry tree, weed trees pulled out of a yard or grapevines cut in early spring, can all be used to build smaller trellises.

Some were watering plants from blue wooden pails, others were trimming blossoming bushes and hedges, some were digging out weeds, and others were building trellises for climbing vines.

Second, bush beans require less work because it's not necessary to build teepee-like structures or trellises for them to climb on.

The Wards do not rest much, though, between moving rocks and building funky trellises.
