Tauranga Intermediate, since the early days of the school, has had house groups which over the years have changed very much.
In total, the students are divided into three house groups.
These house groups compete against each other in many different events each year.
The school has four sporting and cultural house groups in which the students are divided into.
Senior students: Remain in the existing house group from the previous year.
There are four house groups in which all students and teachers are split into.
Students remain in these house groups right throughout their high school education.
In Year 3 students are divided into house groups.
College students are divided into 5 different house groups on enrolment.
In 2010, house groups were reintroduced into the school, following much planning by senior management.
