It was known by about 1638 as "Governor's Island".
Later on in the 17th century, it became known as "Winter's Island".

By the 1860s, the place was known as "Sherwood's Island".
Because of this, the island became known as Will's Island.

From the 13th to the 16th centuries the island was known as St Michael's Island.
Parker built the first permanent homestead on what eventually became known as Parker's Island.
It was formerly also known as Women's or Woman's Island.
