The senior lieutenant replied to the question as if nothing at all had happened.
"I have never been in the Highlands," the lieutenant replied.
"We may increase that distance at our discretion," the lieutenant replied.
The lieutenant replied, "We haven't found a single door anywhere in the city.
"Oh, between the two of us, I figure we can take care of it all right," the lieutenant replied.
"I should like to believe it," replied the lieutenant, who was quite unmoved.
"Most unfortunate," the lieutenant replied, though his expression was not in the least sympathetic.
"Course laid in," the lieutenant at the helm controls replied.
He seemed, too, to be making some objections to which the lieutenant replied by formal assurances.
After a moment, the lieutenant replied, "We're not sure how well the transporters will work in that atmosphere."
