The big 5.3 magnitude aftershock on Sunday afternoon, which sent people fleeing stores and movie theaters, rattled nerves as well.
This was later followed by a magnitude 6.0 aftershock.
On 8 September 2010, there was a large 5.1 magnitude aftershock with an epicentre just 7 km from the city centre.
On 22 July 2011 a magnitude 5.1 aftershock with a depth of 12 km occurred at 5:39am.
A magnitude 4.5 aftershock occurred in the same area at 7.11 pm on 20 July 2012 at a similar depth.
The initial earthquake was followed approximately five minutes later by a magnitude 5.7 aftershock.
A strong magnitude 5.3 aftershock struck the region approximately 16 minutes after the initial quake.
This was later followed by a magnitude 6.0 aftershock, at a depth of 21.7 km.
There have been dozens of small magnitude aftershocks, M 1-3, but these generally do not cause further structural damage.
