The museum knew the terms from the outset but a museum spokeswoman declined to comment on them.

Ruth Gilgen, a museum spokeswoman, said a decision would be made soon on whether to put the sculpture back on display.

According to a museum spokeswoman, the sign will say, "Some Holocaust survivors have been disturbed by these works."

A piece of cloth apparently caught fire and set off an alarm, a museum spokeswoman said.

"We're not seeing anything here that would indicate people are worried about this," Claire Brown, a museum spokeswoman, said.

"We are not selling what is on our walls," said Susan Flamm, a museum spokeswoman.

"We definitely don't have them," said Teresa Gonzalez, a museum spokeswoman.

All the women were chosen, a museum spokeswoman said, because they "went above and beyond what was expected of them."

"We're going to have nine vehicles from 1917 to 1980," said Roxanne Robertson, a museum spokeswoman.

A museum spokeswoman said the trustees had explored the possibility of buying the collection but had never made a bid.
