The parish of St Peter, previously merged with that of the Chapel Royal, will be reconstituted as a separate, smaller parish.
In the 19th century the parish of St Peter's was created to serve the burgeoning city with the new church being consecrated in 1859.
In 1874 the parish was united with the neighbouring parish of St Peter's, and St John's became derelict.
In 1948 the parish of St Peter's was united with those of St Mary's and St Clement's.
This was consecrated in 1732 as a Chapel of Ease in the parish of St Peter, Harborne, Birmingham.
At that time it was in the parish of St Peter, Newton-in-Makerfield, whose rector was Canon Whalley.
It is part of the civil parish of Broadstairs and St Peter's, which includes St. Peter's and had a population in 2001 of about 24,000.
Following amalgamation of the parishes of St Margaret and St Peter, St Margaret's again became a chapel of ease.
These included the parishes of: St Barnabas' Pimlico and St Peter's London Docks.
