Satisfactory completion of the post bachelor programme will bestow students with a qualification as practicing psychologists.

"The vast majority of practicing psychologists would say that some human interaction is a prerequisite for effective therapy with most disorders," said John A. Schinka, a psychologist in Tampa, Fla.

Accepting its first students in 1980, WSPP's first faculty was composed of practicing psychologists in Milwaukee.

Some have questioned if it is possible, in today's climate, to continue to expect practicing clinical psychologists to be able to adhere to the ideals and tenets of the scientist-practitioner model.

The sample included both practicing clinical psychologists and academic psychologists.

"This entire approach to develop manuals and require practicing psychologists to use them is fundamentally insane," Dr. Levant said.

Although the exact number of practicing clinical psychologists is unknown, it is estimated that between 1974 and 1990, the number in the US grew from 20,000 to 63,000.

Most will be licensed and practicing psychologists in their particular field.

She helped develop a program of certification for practicing psychologists in the State of New York.

The Chicago School was established by practicing psychologists with the goal of providing high-quality professional psychology training in a not-for-profit setting.
