The regiment embarked on steamer Golden Age on June 2, 1862, bound for Vicksburg.

In the spring of 1942, the regiment embarked for the Far East in the Belfast-built liner RMS Britannic, and after a long voyage, reached Bombay.

Next day the regiment embarked for City Point, landed at Powhattan, on the James, and marched the rest of the way.

After completing his training, he was appointed lance corporal and his regiment embarked for the Transvaal on 27 February 1900.
