The regiment is most well known for its involvement in the Siege of Lucknow.

The regiment was also known as the 2nd West Tennessee Cavalry.

From 1688 to 1751 the regiment was known by the name of its various colonels.

The regiment then was officially known as the 43rd Highlanders (later renumbered the 42nd ).

To this day, the regiment is informally known as The Rileys.

The regiment was not only known for its lavish uniform, but its combat history, as well.

The regiment was known as the Green Howards from 1744.

Over the years the regiment became known by a number of different titles.

In its early history, the regiment was known as the "Missouri Rifles".
