His battalion arrived at Gallipoli in August 1915 to relieve the 1st Division who had been there since April.

On 26 August, a Japanese counterattack to relieve the 23rd Division failed.

The division was sent into action the following day, relieving the 5th Division, but arrived late due to its rushed preparation.

The division relieved the 26th Division on 25 June.

The 6th Division relieved the 4th Indian Division on 14 December.
