"You can go for a couple of blocks underground," said Dempster Leech, a retired private investigator who has wandered into those catacombs in the search for counterfeits.

"I think it's a shame that the campaign got off on something other than the issues," said Robert Kaplan, a retired special investigator for the City of New York.
