The modern road was extended north to Boonsboro in 1925 and 1926.

That road was extended to Chicamuxen between 1924 and 1926.

The road was then extended to I-76 two years later.

This road was extended south to the state line pursuant to two laws in 1859.

The road was extended to the New Mexico state line later that year.

Since then, the road has been extended and shortened a number of times.

By 1999, the road was extended to its current southern terminus.

From here the road is slowly being extended to Encumeada.

The settlement remained a small village until the early 17th century when the high road was extended north through the forest.

In 1970, the road was eventually extended to its present location.
