Originally a non-football conference, the Sun Belt began sponsoring football in 2001.

The league will sponsor football, cross country, volleyball, golf, basketball, wrestling, baseball, softball, and track & field.

The school sponsored intercollegiate football from 1881 to 1966.

The school also unveiled plans to begin sponsoring football.

The Missouri Valley Conference started sponsoring football in the fall of 1907.

On December 3, 2009 the university announced that it would no longer be sponsoring football.

The following Division I conferences do not sponsor football.

This will be the first season the school has sponsored football since 1956.

This is Mercer's first year sponsoring football since 1941.
