The spotted eagles as a group are quite distinct from the typical members of Aquila, the "true eagles".

It is broad-headed, with the widest mouth of all spotted eagles.

There they found the nests of many spotted eagles and black storks.

Lesser spotted eagles nest in the grounds of the lodge, while in the spring and early summer you can hear nightingales.

The park is one of the few known breeding sites of the globally threatened spotted eagle.

A medium-sized eagle, the greater spotted eagle only has white spots as a juvenile, when they extend in bands across the upperwing.

In gliding flight, the greater spotted eagle holds the feathers at the tips of the wings downward.

The bird-life of the nature reserve is also rich; species commonly found here include the lesser spotted eagle, black stork and grey heron.

Among them is the lesser spotted eagle (Aquila pomarina), whose numbers within the park are low, but which was chosen as symbol of the natural park.

The fauna also incorporates unusual and threatened species, such as the pond bat, the lesser spotted eagle and the black stork.
