If you stop taking niacin for any length of time, talk with your doctor before starting the medication again.
Before taking niacin, tell your doctor if you are also using any of the following drugs:
Do not take lovastatin and niacin if you are pregnant.
Do not take lovastatin and niacin on an empty stomach.
Some concern has been raised about stroke risk in people taking niacin.
Previous research has not identified any stroke risk related to taking niacin.
Stop taking niacin or niacinamide at least 2 weeks before a scheduled surgery.
