The main issue I have is the misconception that teachers should expect a poor work:life balance.
The teacher expects a response from the students after each statement or question, to check whether they have understood.
A student had to have a pretty high average to get in, and then the teachers expected you to work hard once you were there.
The teachers don't expect you to get through high school, let alone go on to college.
Such articles also encourage parents and teachers to expect different achievement based on gender.
In the past, a book was enough; now teachers expect tests and other materials designed to document what students are learning.
Students learn on the first day of classes that their teachers expect them to know everything.
If the children fail, they say, it is because their white teachers expect no more than failure from them.
Now many expect to lay off teachers, shut down programs or even close schools.
If students slack off, teachers expect such parents to help.
