President Costa also delivered a speech to the National Council of the Judiciary in the presence of its Vice-President, Mr Nicola Mancino.

As head of the National Council of the Judiciary, Mr Fernández was able to oversee the appointment of members of the Supreme Court and the Electoral Tribunal.

The Regional Courts are established and abolished by way of a regulation issued by the Minister of Justice in consultation with the National Council of the Judiciary in Poland.

The Court’s assessment was confirmed by the fact that the National Council of the Judiciary had itself felt the need to come back to the issue in July 1993 and state in clear terms that the exercise of judicial functions was incompatible with membership of the Freemasons.

In a resolution of 16 April 2003 by the Hungarian Parliament, a request with due regard to the separation of powers has been also put forward to the National Council of the Judiciary to organize training for judges and to find a way to ensure that cases relating to violence within the family are given priority.

Judges are nominated by the National Council of the Judiciary and appointed by the president.
