During the course of Athens' dramatic growth in the late 19th century, Metaxourgeio became a thriving working-class neighborhood, housing many craftsmen, tradesmen, and small-business owners.

"We worked hard to keep the town houses affordable as part of our goal to create a thriving neighborhood," says Paul Fischburg, Delridge's director.

Today, as in the past, the F.Q. Story Historic District is a thriving neighborhood characterized by diversity.

It was a thriving socially and ethnically mixed neighborhood from the late 19th century through the 1930s.

"Now these areas have actually become thriving neighborhoods where a local weekly would fill a real need."

Anthony school in Yonkers once anchored a thriving Italian neighborhood.

"Williamsburg and Greenpoint are two of the most thriving neighborhoods in the city," he said, adding that the 1975 protest helped the area's revival.

Chicago Lawn was a thriving urban neighborhood as the Depression hit the nation and by 1940 its population had reached 49,291.

During the war years, the Pastures remained a thriving, socioeconomiclly and ethnically diverse neighborhood.

By the 1980s, downtown Kansas City consisted mostly of office towers, with few thriving neighborhoods remaining.
