Washington Avenue on the East Bank is being converted into a transit mall as the light-rail line is built.

A transit mall is located in the CBD, through which all services operate.

Another major addition in 2009 was a new, second alignment through downtown, along the transit mall; it is used by both the Yellow and Green lines.

It was also the eastern terminus of the transit mall.

On September 12, 2009, the new Green Line opened, and it serves the transit mall as well.

Instead, it is formatted as a transit mall, with benches and bus shelters on either side of the terminal.

Opened in 1977 for buses, the transit mall was renovated and rebuilt in 2007-09, with light rail added.

In 2010, a $7 million project was undertaken by Long Beach Transit to upgrade the transit mall.
