The sanctuary of the present temple was built in 1912 facing Church Street to replace an earlier wooden synagogue on the site.
A small wooden synagogue was constructed in 1846.
The Jewish community built a wooden synagogue in Valkininkai at the end of the 18th century.
"It is inspired by the old wooden synagogues, the shtetls in Eastern Europe," he said.
Notable buildings include the church, an old wooden synagogue, a home for the elderly and the Rehabilitation Centre.
The congregation became too large to continue meeting in local homes; therefore, a 200-seat wooden synagogue was built in 1882.
A wooden synagogue was built in 1763-1766.
The wooden synagogues of Galicia were notable for their elaborate wall paintings.
Today the documentation is all that remain of the wooden synagogues of Poland.
