He later helped found G.X. Clarke & Co., a government securities dealer.

He founded A Mylne & Co. in 1896.

Sher founded the law firm Gilead Sher and Co. in 1989.

He eventually founded Ginn & Co., an educational publishing house distinguished for its commitment to innovation.

He founded E. Naumburg & Co. in 1893 - one of the largest 'commercial paper' banks on Wall Street.

In the late 1870s he went on to found Sir William Arrol & Co., a leading international civil engineering business.

In 1974 he founded Troubh & Co., a financial consulting firm.

In addition to the salt business, Samuel helped found Kier, Royer and Co., in 1838.
